Models for local Ohmic quantum dissipation.

چکیده
We propose a family of master equations for local quantum dissipation. The master equations are constructed in the form of Lindblad generators, with the constraints that the dissipation be strictly linear (i.e. ohmic), isotropic and translationally invariant. The resulting master equations are given in both the Schrödinger and Heisenberg forms. We obtain fluctuation-dissipation relations, and discuss the relaxation of average kinetic energy to effective thermal equilibrium values. We compare our results for one dimension to the Dekker master equation [H. Dekker, Phys. Rep. 80, 1 (1981)], which can be interpreted as a low length scale approximation of our model, as well as the CaldeiraLeggett master equation [A. O. Caldeira and A. J. Leggett, Physica (Utrecht) 121 A, 587 (1983)].

A general condition for sharp transition of decay rate from quantum to thermal regimes is derived in dissipative tunneling models when positiondependent mass is involved. It is shown that the effect of dissipation in general changes the order of the phase transition. Especially, for the models with constant mass the Ohmic dissipation enlarges the range of parameters for first order phase transi...
متن کاملKondo physics and dissipation: A numerical renormalization-group approach to Bose-Fermi Kondo models
We extend the numerical renormalization-group method to treat Bose-Fermi Kondo models BFKMs describing a local moment coupled both to a conduction band and to a dissipative bosonic bath representing, e.g., lattice or spin collective excitations of the environment. We apply the method to the Ising-symmetry BFKM with a structureless band and a bath spectral function s. The method is valid for all...
متن کاملSmeared quantum phase transition in the dissipative random quantum Ising model
We investigate the quantum phase transition in the random transverse-field Ising model under the influence of Ohmic dissipation. To this end, we numerically implement a strong-disorder renormalization-group scheme. We find that Ohmic dissipation destroys the quantum critical point and the associated quantum Griffiths phase by smearing. Our results quantitatively confirm a recent theory [Phys. R...
متن کاملNon-Perturbative Renormalization Group Analysis of the Ohmic Quantum Dissipation
We analyze quantum tunneling with the Ohmic dissipation by the non-perturbative renormalization group method. We calculate the localization susceptibility to evaluate the critical dissipation for the quantum-classical transition, and find considerably larger critical dissipation compared to the previous semi-classical arguments. متن کاملEnergy Fluxes and Ohmic Dissipation in the Earth’s Core
Simulations have shown that convection-driven geodynamo models can produce reversing magnetic fields of a similar strength to those of the geomagnetic field. These simulations suggest that the ohmic dissipation arising from the geodynamo is not due solely to the largest scale harmonics of the magnetic field, but is dominated by contributions from smaller scale components. It is argued that, in ...
